Tampa airport closes amid Tropical Storm Elsa

-

Following the meteorological reports that indicate that Tropical Storm Elsa will pass over the central west coast of Florida causing winds of between 65 and 70 miles per hour, the administration of the Tampa International Airport (TPA) announced the closure of all commercial operations to 5 pm (7 p.m. UTC) this Tuesday, and those of load starting at 10 p.m.

This will affect about 80 flights that were scheduled to depart or arrive until midnight, but considering that the airport would reopen at 10 a.m. as of Wednesday morning, an extra hundred flights are beginning to be canceled.

«All travelers should check with their airlines for the most up-to-date flight times for the next two to three days. As a reminder, the airport is not an emergency shelter for people or vehicles, as it is not designed or equipped with the supplies to handle an influx of evacuees,» they said from Tampa Airport.

Elsa, who has been moving up or down in the last week, caused serious disruptions to air operations in Barbados, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
