The Chilean low cost airline SKY received its first A321neo yesterday. The aircraft will serve the company’s fleet through a leasing agreement with Air Lease Corporation (ALC). SKY thus becomes the first airline to operate the A321neo in Chile.
Matthew Stevens, ALC deputy vice president of marketing, announced in this regard that «we feel privileged to work with SKY and we believe that this aircraft will contribute positively to the sustainability and operations of its fleet.»
SKY’s A321neo is powered by CFM Leap-1A engines and can accommodate up to 238 passengers in a two-class configuration. The Chilean is the first South American airline to operate the A321neo in a high-density cabin configuration.
This aircraft is perfectly integrated into SKY’s fleet of 19 A320neo aircraft, sharing 95% of the parts with the rest of the A320neo family. Also, crews do not require an additional type rating as the family shares this certificate. SKY become an Airbus-only operator in 2013.
