Ryanair expands ambitiously in Malaga adding fourteen new routes

Ryanair presented its 2021/22 summer and winter programming in Malaga (AGP), where it recovers its operations to pre-pandemic levels.

The ambitious bet includes 77 routes, of which 14 are new connections, and more than 315 weekly flights, which will mean 5 million seats per year. This announcement will allow reaching pre-pandemic levels, since currently, according to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, it was 3.6% below.

Jason McGuinness, Commercial Director of Ryanair, said: “Following the success of the vaccination campaigns, Spanish air traffic, led by Ryanair, will recover strongly in the summer of 2021 and, therefore, we are very happy to announce our programming for the airport of the Andalusian city.»

Among the new routes there are six that started this summer season: Belfast (Ireland) with 7 weekly flights, Fez (Morocco) with 2 weekly flights, Menorca (Spain) with 2 weekly flights, Pisa (Italy) with 2 weekly flights, Sofia (Bulgaria) with 2 weekly flights and Rabat (Morocco) with 2 weekly flights.

But, facing the 2021/22 winter season in Europe, 73 routes and 250 weekly flights will be planned, including eight new routes:

Ryanair is currently the main airline at Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport, far surpassing its rivals Easyjet, Norwegian Air Shutlle and Vueling, which also have a base of operations in the city.

According to data obtained through Cirium, Ryanair owns 38.9% of the offer in ASK, in second place is Vueling with 13% and Easyjet owns 11%.

The Irish low cost has a seat offer of 39.1% to the United Kingdom, domestic flights in Spain represent 13.5% and Germany closes the podium with 12.8%.
