Rostec presented to President Vladimir Putin the Checkmate, the new Russian Sukhoi 5th generation fighter

Today, during the first day of the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021, after its opening ceremony, the President of the Russian Federation arrived at the exhibition hall of the company Sukhoi, where the head of the State Corporation of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, and United Aircraft Building Corporation´s CEO Yuri Slyusar introduced Putin to the new Russian Checkmate fighter.

According to the Rostec press release, this is a fifth generation light single-engine fighter, the first of its kind in Russia. It combines innovative solutions and technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) support to facilitate the pilot’s work, as well as proven solutions that have already demonstrated themselves in practice. The fighter has great discretion and high flight performance. Supercomputer technologies are widely used in the work of the Checkmate project.

Yuri Slyusar, during the presentation of the new fighter, told the president of the country about the high technical characteristics of the aircraft, also emphasizing that the Checkmate is a new-generation multifunctional platform, distinguished by the ability to adapt to needs of a particular client, low operating costs and extensive combat capabilities.

After the flight program on the first day of MAKS-2021, a meeting on the implementation of key projects in the field of civil aircraft construction will be held, which will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, the Minister of Industry and Commerce Denis Manturov, Managing Director of Rostec State Corporation Sergey Chemezov, Managing Director of UAC Yuri Slyusar, Managing Director of Russian Helicopters Andrey Boginsky and Managing Director of the Urals Civil Aviation Plant Vadim Badekha.

The International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021 is held from July 20 to 25 in Zhukovsky, Moscow Region. The event is organized by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Russian Federation and the Rostec State Corporation.
