This weekend Volaris received two Airbus A320neo, with the particularity that one of the aircraft was originally going to be delivered to JetSMART, an airline with which it is linked by sharing Indigo Partners as a shareholder (along with Frontier and Wizz Air).
The ultra low-cost has been registering strong growth on Mexican land, ranking as the main airline in the country in domestic passenger traffic. According to its latest monthly report, so far in 2021 it has transported 8.16 million passengers, a negative variation of just 1.8% compared to 2019.
During the first stage of the pandemic, most of the countries in the region suspended domestic flights, but Mexico, along with Chile and Brazil, was one of the exceptions, which resulted in less impact on Mexican airlines, which recovered faster than their Latin American peers, while they deferred delivery of new aircraft.
On June 4, Volaris received its 26th Airbus A320neos with the registration XA-VRU. Its 27th NEO, with the registration XA-VRW, was originally for JetSMART with the reserved registration CC-AWV and the «Humpback Whale» livery on its tail.

According to Planespotters, Volaris will continue to receive aircraft that have been scrapped by other airlines for not having predictability about the future of their markets. It is expected that in the coming weeks two aircraft that were for Vietnam Airlines, and another one from JetSMART, will go to the ultra low cost.
The company’s current fleet is made up of 3 Airbus A319, 39 A320ceo, 28 A320neo, 9 A321ceo and 6 A321neo.
