The new terminal 2 of the Arturo Merino Benítez Airport in Santiago de Chile, is ready to be delivered after 5 years of works and 1 billion dollars of investment.
The premiere of this new terminal was announced for the second half of this year through Nuevo Pudahuel, the company that manages the air terminal, after the last operational tests.
While the final adjustments are made prior to its delivery, this is how the Nuevo Pudahuel Aeropuerto AMB channel presents the terminal.
The works had begun in 2016 and were scheduled to be completed in 2020, but they had the imponderable of the Covid-19 pandemic and the deadlines had to be stretched.
Our partner site Aeroin, detailed that the building has an approximate area of 175,000 square meters and that thanks to this it will be possible to increase the capacity from 15 to 30 million passengers per year. The current terminal will be remodeled and will be ready for exclusive use of domestic flights.
“We are proud to build, operate, attract new airlines and open new routes, in an unprecedented work of the public-private alliance in the air sector where the Airports Directorate (DAP), Tourism Undersecretariat, Civil Aeronautics Directorate (DGAC), Invest Chile and the Junta de Aeronáutica Civil (JAC) work together so that people can fly cheaper and to more places,” commented Branko Karlezi, Communications Deputy Manager of Nuevo Pudahuel.
As one of its main characteristics, this terminal will be composed of a central processor that facilitates passenger boarding and disembarking tasks, as well as 4 «breakwaters» that will host docks as boarding lounges. Once the works are finished, two connectors will join the current terminal.
