Colombia transported more than 10 million passengers in seven months

Colombia was one of the last large Latin American markets to restart regular domestic and international flights after the first wave of COVID-19 infections, but nevertheless it is the one that is showing the greatest dynamism at this stage, with a rapid resumption of routes as well as the establishment of new connections.

On this, from Aerocivil reported that between September 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021, Colombian airports mobilized 10 million passengers, of which 8 million did so on domestic flights and 2 million on international flights.

With 1.6 million domestic passengers, March was the month with the highest traffic, followed by January with 1.4 million and December 2020 with 1.36 million. In the international segment, December was the month of greatest movement, with 441 thousand passengers, then January with 410 thousand passengers and March with 368 thousand.

El Dorado Airport in Bogotá registered 5.9 million domestic passengers and 1.3 million international passengers, followed by the José María Córdova Airport (MDE) with 2 million from the domestic segment and 390 thousand from the international segment.

The third place corresponded to the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón airport (CLO) in Cali with 1.6 million domestic passengers and 200 thousand international passengers.

«This balance shows that air transport has been gradually consolidating itself as a determining factor for the economic reactivation of the country, favoring such important lines as tourism and trade. This shows that the coordinated work of the national government, through the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aeronautics, has allowed the sector to provide the best operational conditions and to comply with strict biosafety protocols, so that travelers can regain confidence in this means of transport» said Angela María Orozco, Minister of Transport.

In 2020, the Colombian air market handled 14.5 million passengers, a 68% less compared to the previous year.
