United Airlines adds new routes to Europe

-

Given recent announcements by Croatia, Iceland and Greece allowing the entry of foreigners who are vaccinated, United Airlines launches three new routes to these European destinations starting in July.

The airline will offer a direct flight between Newark International Airport (EWR) and Dubrovnik (DBV) between July 1 and October 3, being the only non-stop service between the United States and Croatia. These will be operated with the Boeing 767-300ER configured for 214 passengers and will have three weekly flights.

At the moment, it is the only long-range service for Dubrovnik with United.

Greece will receive a daily flight between Washington / Dulles (IAD) and Athens (ATH), being the first direct service between both cities. Operations begin on July 3 and will run until October 3, they will be operated with the Boeing 787-8 configured for 243 travelers.

These flights will be complemented with the return of services between Newark and Athens on June 3.

Finally, Reykjavik (KEF) in Iceland adds a new direct connection to Chicago / O’hare (ORD), from July 1 and will run until October 3. They will be operated in Boeing 757-200 configured for 174 passengers, with a daily flight.

Additionally, United will resume its flights between Reykjavik and Newark, with daily services, which will resume on June 3 and run until October 29.

«As countries around the world begin the reopening process, leisure travelers are eager to embark on a long-awaited getaway to new international destinations,» said Patrick Quayle, Vice President of International Networks and Alliances.

“These three new routes reveal the natural beauty of the great outdoors for our guests. They are also the latest example of how United remains agile in rebuilding our network» Quayle finished.

In the middle of the vaccination process, there are beginning to be signs of a progressive reopening of the countries. United’s Travel-Ready Center allows customers to upload their COVID-19 tests and vaccine documentation for verification prior to check-in, helping to obtain their boarding pass prior to arrival at the airport, optimizing the time spent at check-in. It can be done through the airline’s mobile application.

Given these announcements, United Airlines will also resume some routes that were suspended during the pandemic, such as:

  • Newark to Rome (FCO) and Milan (MXP) in Italy, y Chicago a Munich (MUC) in Germany, Ámsterdam (AMS) in the Netherlands and Tokyo/Haneda (HND) in Japan. All of them from May
  • As of June, it resumes its flights between San Francisco (SFO) and Papeete (PPT) in French Polynesia.

They also add new routes previously announced and increase flights in others:

  • Barbados (BGI) to Newark and Washington starting December 5 every Saturday.
  • Given the opening of international flights in Israel, the airline adds new flights from Tel Aviv (TLV) to Chicago, which will resume on May 7 with three weekly flights, and San Francisco with a daily flight from June 3. It includes the 14 weekly flights from Newark, completing 24 weekly flights between the two countries.
  • It adds three new routes to and from Africa, with three flights per week to Accra (ACC) in Ghana from Washington Dulles starting May 14. With three services per week to Lagos (LOS) in Nigeria from Washington / Dulles, starting later this year. Finally, a daily service to Johannesburg (JNB) in South Africa from Newark, starting June 3.
