On April 12, 1:03 p.m. local time, Frontier Airlines’ maiden flight from Miami landed at La Aurora International Airport, marking the company’s official landing not only in Guatemala but also in Central America.
Frontier will operate two weekly flights between Miami and Guatemala City, departing on Mondays and Fridays at 11:20 AM to arrive in the Central American city at 12:12 PM. The return will be at 1:42 PM, landing in Miami at 6:33 PM. The operations are carried out in Airbus A320neo aircraft, and as a promotion, rates are offered from USD 42 per segment. As of May 3, a third weekly flight will be added on Wednesdays.

The General Director of Civil Aeronautics, aviator pilot Francis Argueta, said for his part that «today Guatemala is celebrating, aviation is celebrating, the country’s economy is celebrating, and this is a determining sign that neither the pandemic nor nothing is going to stop the Guatemalan government from working for the economic reactivation and the Guatemalans».

The reception ceremony at La Aurora airport also included the participation of the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, who stressed that «the last five years, no new airline has come to Guatemala. This is good news, and this is essential to achieve the objectives of the reactivation and economic transformation of our country. This strengthening of air interconnection directly affects the global competitiveness index which measures airport connectivity and is important because it affects trade, industry, tourism and is related to the reduction of logistics costs. Guatemala is the 30th destination served non-stop from Miami, of which six are in Latin America and the Caribbean (Cancun, Punta Cana, Santo Domingo and San Juan de Puerto Rico), and to which a seventh will be added, San Salvador, starting on Thursday 15.
