The Jorge Chávez airport continues with the expansion and modernization works to expand its capacities: the Peruvian government continues to audit the use of public funds for this purpose and monitor progress according to the committed deadlines.
The construction of the new control tower began last June, and its completion will require a total time of two years. Additionally, the new runway will improve operating times by 50% and is set to be inaugurated by October 2022. The airport expansion project includes the construction of a new passenger terminal and will add 8 more aircraft positions while its surface area will be 180,000 square meters.
The entire investment, of more than 400 million dollars, seeks to handle 37 million passengers until the year 2041. Currently, the contract signed between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Lima Airport Partners is halfway through its term, as it was signed in February 2001 and gave the Lima group 40 years of operation.
