The Paraguayan government announced the installment of a laboratory for conducting rapid tests for COVID-19 at Silvio Pettirossi Airport in Asunción, which will be the first of its kind in South America.
Paraguay requires passengers to present a negative COVID-19 test at arrival, but this laboratory will only be available for departing passengers who need to comply with rules at their final destinations.
The tests to be used are designed and manufactured by iONEBIO, a South Korean biomedical company. It has safety and quality certificates as established by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, as well as the European Union.
This test from South Korea is authorized by the Central Laboratory of Paraguay, which carried out an extensive process verifying the clinical performance of the test, according to the information published the newspaper La Nación from Asunción.
The estimated waiting time to obtain the result will be approximately one hour.
No further details were yet known on when this service would begin to be offered or the price of the coronavirus test.
