The name of the project is STOUT, an acronym for Short Take-Off Utility Transport. The most prominent feature of the aircraft is its hybrid propulsion configuration.

As reported by our associated site Aeroin.net, the STOUT will have a combination of turboprop and electric engines. According to the design presented, the engines closest to the fuselage will be turboprops and the two external ones, at the wingtips, will be electric.

Among the official details published it is stated that the STOUT will have:

  • Similar dimensions to the C-97 Brasília (E120);
  • Range of 2,452 km (1,310 nautical miles) with 3 tons of cargo;
  • Ability to operate on short unpaved runways;
  • Fully adapted to operations in jungle areas;
  • Rear door with a ramp for vehicle boarding, palletized cargo and for use by paratroopers or launching cargo in flight;
  • Transport capacity for 30 soldiers or 24 paratroopers;
  • It can be configured internally for the transport of personnel and VIP, as the C-97 Bandeirante does today.

STOUT is the result of a study developed by Embraer, with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), which combines the technical excellence of the company and the operational experience of several FAB transport pilots, in the terms established in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in December. 2019, whose objective was to design a new light military transport aircraft that meets the demands of the Brazilian Armed Forces.
