-

Viva Aerobus, the Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier, reported that in September it transported 730,000 passengers, an increase of 12% compared to August, becoming the second airline in terms of carried passenger.

During September, Viva operated 94 routes offering a capacity level of 87% compared to September 2019.

In this period, the Mexican low cost began to fly from Mexico City to Veracruz, La Paz and San Antonio. It also had a load factor of 80% which, although 5 points less than last year, it was the highest in the industry.

The airline presented one of the most solid reactivations, in order to reach the levels of 2019. In October, Viva Aerobus will operate 97 routes.

In addition, it has already announced the launch of 19 new routes on its way to the new normal: 13 domestic and 6 international:

  • From Monterrey, new flights to San Antonio and Dallas Fort Worth have already been put on sale;
  • From Cancun to Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosí;
  • Mazatlán – Chihuahua;
  • From Mexico City to Acapulco, Ciudad Obregón, Chetumal, Tampico, Veracruz, La Paz, DFW, Los Angeles, Houston, San Antonio (USA), Campeche, Ciudad del Carmen, Durango and Los Mochis.

Compared with September, 2019, the number of passengers this year was 24.6% lower, due to the effects of the current pandemic on flight demand.

Between January and September 2020, Viva Aerobus transported about 5.2 million passengers with an average load factor of 81.3%. These results, compared to the same period in 2019, meant a reduction of 40.7% in terms of passengers and a decrease of 7.9 points in the load factor.

Viva Aerobus knew how to align itself with the current market requirements with the pandemic and showed that despite the new normal and its new requirements, it is possible to continue flying and growing.
