Buenos Aires Domestic Airport to Remain Closed Until February, 2021

On August 1, Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery Airport closed its air operations to carry out a series of important construction works on the airside and its international terminal.

Originally it had been announced that the airport would reopen in December since the planned work time was four months, but although previous work have been carried out since then, the construction contract had its official start on October 1, for which source close to the matter confirmed to Aviacionline that regular operations would only return to the Airport durinig the first days of February, 2021.

The runway will be extended to 2,715 meters long, adding 615 meters more than its current size. It will also be widen to 45 meters, taxiways will be rebuilt and it will have new rapid exit taxiways, runway turn pads, as well as a new CAT III lightning system, among other complementary works.

The international sector of the terminal will be expanded by 800 square meters. More than ARS 5.5 billion will be invested (USD 70 millions).

If regular flights are restarted in Argentina before Aeroparque reopens, flights will be moved to Ezeiza International Airport.
